Ma's Little Cakes

The very old-fashioned recipe belonging to my Great Grandmother Elizabeth Spencer.
These were a standby of my childhood - Mum made them, Nana made them, Aunty made them. Now I make them.

4 ounces butter
2 ounces sugar
Cream these two together. Then add....
1 egg, well beaten,
1 TBSP Golden Syrup
7 ounces flour
1tsp Baking Powder
Pinch Salt
1/2 cup sultanas or raisins
Vanilla Essence

Mix together and spoon onto tray using little finger to slide them off. Press half a glace cherry onto the top of each cake. Bake for 10 minutes in a moderate oven.
